Sports & Activities
Sport and Movement are an essential part of both the Curriculum and the Ethos of St. Fergal’s. We are a school steeped in GAA tradition and have tasted success at the All-Ireland level in both Hurling and Camogie. Gaelic Football for both boys and girls is also provided. However, that is not all. We actively participate in the Laois Cross-Country and Track and Field championships and we have had students who have competed in both Leinster and All-Irelands.
We of course encourage our students to engage in other minority sports. We have had students who have competed and won in Showjumping and Gymnastics. Our Soccer teams compete regularly in the Leinster championships and many of our students play Rugby on local teams.
It is not all about competing though. Through our PE programme, we encourage our students to be active for life, to make movement an integral part of their daily lives. We have brought students hillwalking in the Slieve Bloom and Wicklow mountains, canoeing on Lough Derg, surfing in the Atlantic Ocean, Ceili dancing in Achill and ice skating in Dublin. Why? Because we recognise the important role that Sport and Activity play in the well-being of our students.” Mens Sana in Corpore Sano”.
