We’re looking forward to welcoming our students back for another great school year at St. Fergal’s College.

Here are some important updates and reminders for the start of term.

1. What to Bring

Students will receive their timetables on their first morning back. As classes begin that day, please ensure students bring:

Copies
Pens
Pencils
Pencil case

2. Canteen

Please note that the school canteen will be closed on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 August.

Please plan accordingly and ensure students bring what they need for these days.

3. New School Management System

We are moving from VSware to Tyro as our new school management system.

Further information about the new parent app will be issued shortly. Parents and guardians are asked to look out for updates and instructions.

4. Online Payments – Way2Pay

Information regarding the Way2Pay online payment system will be provided, particularly for parents and guardians of incoming First Year students.

Further details will be shared in due course.

🎓 BACK TO SCHOOL | 2026/27 🎓

We’re looking forward to welcoming our students back for the new school year!
Please take note of the return dates below:

Thursday, 27 August
First Year students begin at 9:30am and finish at 12:55pm.
Their next school day is Monday, 31 August.

Friday, 28 August
Third Year, Sixth Year & LCA 2 students attend from 8:40am–12:55pm.

Monday, 31 August
Second Year & Fifth Year students return.
Bus Éireann transport resumes for students.

Tuesday, 1 September
TY & LCA 1 students return to school.

We can’t wait to see our students back and begin another successful year together!

• Navy crested tracksuit bottoms
• Grey school half-zip top

LOETB S.T.E.A.M. Showcase at Portlaoise College

In March 2026, our school participated in the LOETB S.T.E.A.M. Showcase at Portlaoise College. Junior Cycle students presented projects developed through the LOETB S.T.E.A.M. Programme.

Our Minecraft team achieved 1st place at the event.

We acknowledge the support of Laois County Council and LOETB in making this opportunity possible.

Welcome to Trinity

Brianna Bergin is one of nine Laois students receive prestigious awards from Dublin’s Trinity College. Brianna earned an entrance awards to Trinity College following top results. To attain over 600 points and be recognised with a Trinity College Entrance Exhibition Award is a wonderful accomplishment. St. Fergal’s School Community is very proud of Brianna and wish her the best in her future studies.

National Chamber Choir of Ireland

Congratulations to 5th Year music students, Molly Cassin, Oonagh Byrne, Taylor Fogarty, Abigail Dempsey, Zi Nanetti and Nellija Henina on composing 4 songs for the National Chamber Choir of Ireland. St. Fergal’s College were very lucky to be chosen as one of ten schools nationally to take part in composing their own pieces of choral music.

‘Composers in the classroom’ is in partnership between Chamber Choir Ireland and the Contemporary Music Centre of Northern Ireland. Students received coaching from some of Ireland’s leading composers and professional singers. A big thank you to composer Tom Lane and singer Abbi Temple for working with our 5th Year students.

The 5th year music class all travelled to the National Concert Hall on Monday 26th January to collaborate with the Chamber Choir, Tom Lane(composer) and conductor David Young. The students got to hear their songs in four part harmony and the songs were recorded in the studio for them.

This was a fantastic experience for the students and they were delighted to hear the songs they composed.

On Friday 30th January the students, attended the Gala Concert in The National Concert Hall. This concert was to showcase all ten schools that participated in ‘Composers In The Classroom’.

The songs composed by our students are:

‘We Can Make a Difference’ by Molly Cassin and Oonagh Byrne.

‘The Frost’ by Abigail Dempsey and Taylor Fogarty

‘We Belong’ by Nellija Henina

‘ To Be’ by Zi Nannetti

This was a great experience and thoroughly enjoyed joyed by all the students
